As Kanye West celebrated his 35th birthday, 14,000 people took to Dublin’s O2 Arena for the first Irish date of the Watch The Throne tour.
Having played to sold out venues in America and Canada, Kanye West and Jay-Z took their collaboration project to Europe, selling out venues in Paris, London and Oslo.
The two rappers took to two separate mini stages for their opening song, ‘H.A.M’, their first song as a collaborative outfit, leading into ‘Who Gon Stop Me?’ and ‘Otis’, both from platinum selling album ‘Watch The Throne’.
Both Jay-Z and Kanye did individual sets throughout the evening, playing some of their biggest and best known hits which included Jay-Z’s ’99 Problems’ and Kanye’s ‘Stronger’.
The Watch The Throne tour has gotten rave reviews throughout the world as two of musics greatest superstars give a brief back catalogue of their incredible journey in the industry. The biggest song of the night is undoubtedly the best known single off the album, ‘Ni**as in Paris’, which the Dublin crowd were treated to five times. (seeing as it was Kanye’s birthday and all.)
On their tour, Kanye and Jay-Z have proved why they are so influential in music and reiterated their importance on music today. From the visuals, which included ascending stages, American flag backdrops and videos; to the 40 song setlist, the Throne most definitely give value for money, as they took you through their repertoire of hits, from Jay-Z’s ‘Big Pimpin’ and ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder’ to Kanye’s ‘Touch The Sky’ and ‘Runaway’. With a rumoured second Watch The Throne album in the works, fans are hoping for another incredible tour.
